Notice Board
We continue to go out riding every thursday evening, starting at around 7pm. Normally we meet in the large Walking Bottom carpark in Peaslake, but every now and then we go elsewhere to make a change.
If you are interested in joining us, the best way is to subscribe to the newsletter and I will send out an email confirming time and place. I do sometimes get round to posting on our facebook page, but don't have a great deal of time so sometimes this won't give you the details. However, if I see loads of people visiting it, I will make more of an effort to keep it up to date. If you are raring to go for a ride and haven't heard anything, you can always email me or ring the shop.
Tonight we are meeting at the main carpark on Leith Hill Road (the Starveal carpark) which is just up the road from the entrance to High Ashes Farm, and on the opposite side. Dunc has planned a route, and hopefully this time I won't fall off in the rhodie bushes in Secret Garden (Windy Willows). See you there.
Women to race the Halfords Tour Series circuit
Woking’s women are quick to show that cycling is not just for men, as they sign up to compete in the Halford’s Tour Series community races.
The women-only race was introduced to the community races due to the unprecedented demand from women at last years Tour Series event.
The race, which is as much about having a go and having fun, will see women riding on road bikes, mountain bikes or hybrid city bikes.
“We wanted to open the race up to all women,” Paul Fishwick, Cycle Woking Programme Manager, said. “You don’t have to be a serious cyclist to take part. The entries we have had so far include all ages and abilities. There is a prize for each category – road bikes, mountain bikes and hybrid bikes – to make racing fairer but it’s more about experiencing the thrill of riding on a professional town centre circuit.”
There are now only a few places left in the women’s race, so anyone who is thinking about taking part is urged to register now to avoid disappointment.
The women’s race is due to take place at 3.55pm on Thursday 24 June in Woking Town Centre. There will also be schools races, a business team race and a free wheel event when anyone can have a go at cycling the circuit.

After a brief hiatus, the next monthly Beyond Shop ride will be held on Sunday 21st March.
The plan is to meet at Peaslake Car Park (Walking Bottom Car Park no.2 POST CODE: GU5 9RJ) and be ready to ride at 10.15am. For those looking for a few extra miles there may be an earlier start at Dorking or Beyond but this is TBC at the moment.
Route is likely to include the usual favourites; Barry Knows Best, Telegraph, Yoghurt Pots, Summer Lightening etc.
All abilities welcome. We will break into ability groups.
IMPORTANT: Please let us know if you are coming, on the WDMBC website forum, the Beyond Mountain Bikes Facebook page, or by email. It helps us to work out how many groups we might have and how many guides we will need.
Just over a week to go for the West Drayton MBC XC races to be held at Black Park, Bucks on the 14th March, This event is sponsored by Beyond so there will be some lovely prizes on offer.Racing for all classes including beginners and fun

There is a plan afoot in conjunction with Stephen T and James P to run a club ride from Peaslake on Sunday 24th January. This should be a great opportunity for club members to visit the shop for tea and cakes after. The possibility of running a short basic bike maintenance session for those who are interested has also been discussed. Watch the club noticeboard for details.
There will be a Beyond Mountain Bikes/club ride on 13th December in the Surrey Hills. Details to be confirmed but most likely a Peaslake or Leith Hilll effort, to which all are welcome.
Some of our club members from WDMBC are meeting over at the Lookout at Bracknell, to ride in Swinley Forest, at 9.30am in the main carpark. I propose to meet them there and we will decide who will ride with whom when we can see who has turned up. The club have vast experience of riding in Swinley Forest and no doubt will show any newcomers all the best trails, and I have also have a fair idea myself.
Look forward to seeing some of you.
Jackie
It looks like we will be quite reduced numbers, so if you could confirm whether or not you are going to be out, that would be much appreciated. Instead of the Punchbowl as previously planned, we are going to do Leith - Dunc has been talking about a different loop to the normal one we do, so it would be fun to try that out. We will be meeting in the main carpark on Leith Hill Road at 6.45 for 7pm.
The road ride will take place as usual from Beyond Mountain bikes on Saturday morning. We are currently hauling ourselves around approximately 25 miles starting at 8am, to be back at the shop by 9.45 latest, (Jackie needs to get her makeup on before opening or the customers will all be scared off!).
On Sunday there is a proposal to go and ride over at Swinley Forest near Bracknell. If anyone is interested please get in touch and we will make a plan.
I've just moved down to Surrey and am looking for an active mtb club to join. I'm looking to ride a couple of times during the week and at the weekend. Previously I have raced but not for quite a few years and am now looking to get back into mountain biking seriously. If anyone can recommend any clubs or groups that ride regularly I'd be very interested to hear from you. Cheers.
The evening ride is changing from this week to Thursday nights instead of Wednesday. This week we are planning to ride up to the North Downs Way and see Newlands Corner. Starting point yet to be agreed, but it seems likely that we will start in Peaslake as normal. Be prepared for a longer than normal weekday ride, we will start promptly at 7pm and hope to be back to the carpark not much later than 9.30.
The road rides on Saturday morning are great fun, and this week we had the added attraction of some Trek 5.2 Madone road bikes to play with, courtesy of Stu Cleevely who kindly hauled out of bed early to come out with us. The consensus seemed to be that the bikes ride stiff, but smooth, and everyone was impressed. We had a few people out on the Pro version with the lower head tube, and the vast majority on the Performance bike, which is designed more for sportif riding (think Etape de Tour). This has the taller head tube and is more comfortable for long distance. These days this type of bike is very popular, but don't forget, those of you who want to go fast, the pro version is the more aerodynamic.
We are hoping to do more of this type of thing, although it was pure luck that Stu had a van load of bikes to hand this weekend. However, luck can strike the same shop twice, and we may yet see some more test bikes, so watch this space.
If you are interested in the Saturday morning road rides, please do get in touch. They move along quite well, but are not intended to be a flat out race. We like a bit of a laugh though and will occasionally sprint away, but the general feel is mellow and friendly.
Photos of this weeks ride are in the gallery.
We are now regularly night riding on a wednesday from the main Peaslake carpark, starting at 6.45 for 7.00pm. I do try and email out the day before but sometimes am to busy, so do contact me if you are interested but have not received an email. We are riding tonight, 25th Feb.
The next sunday ride will be on 8th March. We are meeting in the Peaslake carpark again at 10am, although those who want a bit more exercise can join us at the shop to ride over, 8.45 leaving at 9.00 prompt. We must not faff, or we will be late for the rest of the group in Peaslake, so don't do this if you don't want the pressure!!
There will be varying groups once we are there. Please contact me if you are coming as last time there were 40 riders and getting 3 leaders was a bit of an issue, so I would prefer some warning. Thanks!
The Wednesday night ride is not on this week, but if there is interest I will do it on Thursday instead. Please email if you are likely to come as if there is no response you might not find anyone there!!
The last couple of weeks there has been a good turnout, and the Sunday club ride on Leith Hill saw about 30 to 40 riders turn out, which forced us to split into three groups so as not to terrorise the other people out on the hills that day! It was great riding, Leith Hill is obviously a popular spot to meet up.
The night ride is on tomorrow, as usual, 6.45 in the Walking Bottom carpark in Peaslake. See you there. Let me know in good time if you would like to demo any lights.
Last night we went out and there were 10 of us despite the wind and rain. I will try to email out to those on the list to confirm they are going ahead, but if you don't hear, and you wanna go, just drop me an email to check. If I am at home, I can't get a mass email out, but can always respond to individual messages.
